Located just a few blocks up from the heart of the historic Uptown District in Westerville, located on State Street, is a new mom and pop screen printing shop.
Megan Lee Designs is the brainchild of Megan Owdom-Weitz and her husband Erik Weitz. Having moved their studio back to Ohio from Chicago in January, the couple officially made the move May of last year, they now call Westerville home with their 2 young children. This dynamic duo have been sharing the highs and lows of running their screen printing business and now add retail merchants to their growing responsibilities.
Megan first started the company in 2003 after taking a screen printing class and instantly fell in love with the techniques involved behind this labor intensive process . With a background in design she was able to put her sketches to screen and Megan Lee Designs was formed. Erik stepped into the business full time a few years later and serves as the front of house for the company. Handling customer service and sales Erik can be found at craft shows representing the brand around the Midwest. While Megan continues to grow their product line with one of a kind designs and keeps the screens fired up. Megan and Erik do all this while balancing an active 2 1/2 year old and an adorable 6 month old, both of whom can be found from time to time in the back “play room” while the couple juggle orders and bottles.
Their products can now be found in over 80 stores and they continue to tap into new markets around the US. Their focus is on high quality designs, retail based sales and less on small run custom printing. Though from time to time they make new partnerships which can lead into amazing designs. See the Willie Cat shirt, created for friends in Austin, TX and is quickly becoming one of their more popular shirts.
What first greets you when you walk into the storefront are the turquoise colored walls and wide variety of their t-shirts, scarves and novelty gifts all designed in-house. The couple look forward to playing an active role within the city of Westerville and engaging with the residents of their new hometown.
